That’s where Campos, of Brackettville, drives herself to treatment twice a month. When her breast cancer came back, it was aggressive stage IV. Campos switched her care to UMH. It’s closer to her home, and that’s made going to treatments easier. Her treatments for her breast cancer recurrence have included chemotherapy and immunotherapy medications. Her recent scans have shown good results. “I keep telling my doctor, ‘I’m going to beat it,’” Campos says. ‘NOT JUST ANOTHER PERSON THERE’ Campos finds strength in her faith. In moments when she feels the weight of her illness, her oncology nurses are there. They pray with her and make her feel at home. “If they see that I’m sad, they’ll say, ‘Ms. Campos, what’s wrong? Let me get you a juice. Let me get you another blanket or a pillow,’” Campos says. “Or they’ll just sit and hold my hand.” Campos says her UMH team has made her bumpy cancer journey a little smoother. “I’m getting the best possible care,” Campos says. “I’m not just another person there. I am somebody. That makes it better.”
